Secure Wipe
Are you thinking about upgrading your existing hard disk drive,
selling your computer or disposing of it? If the answer is yes
then it is crucial that all sensitive and personal data /
information is removed before you do so. It is all too easy for
fraudsters to access your sensitive / personal information and
use it illegally without your consent.
Most people have some data that they would rather not share with
others - passwords, personal information, classified documents
from work, financial records, self-written poems, photos, the
list can be continued forever.
Your first thought may be that when you 'delete' the file, the
data is gone. Not quite, when you delete a file, the operating
system does not really remove the file from the disk; it only
removes the reference of the file from the file system table.
The file remains on the disk until another file is created over
it, and even after that, it might be possible to recover data
using sophisticated data recovery software.
Refresh-IT provides a state of the art secure data removal
system which can be used in three different ways depending on
the circumstances. The software we use is called secure wipe
which gives 100% peace of mind that your data has been removed
successfully.
Secure Wipe
Secure wipe provides a way to sterilize a hard disk drive that
contains classified or sensitive information. There are three
levels of security available, with the more thorough methods
taking more time.
Short secure wipe
This will overwrite the data twice, which is sufficient to
obscure it from anyone without access to a sophisticated data
recovery laboratory.
Long secure wipe
The data will be overwritten six times, which will prevent its
recovery by techniques available in the private sector.
Long wipe with format
This option makes a total of seven passes, six overwrites
followed by a pass that does a low level format of the hard disk
drive, and meets the most stringent national security
requirements for declassifying a hard disk drive.
